The path to health and happiness happens one step at a time! ~Nicole Alvarado

Days 24, 25, and 26… February 28, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — Nicole Alvarado @ 3:38 am

Day 24:

Kombucha

Smoothie

Wrap (greens, sunflower seeds, hemp seed dip, and salsa)

Ezekiel Sandwich (humus, tomato, spinach, and cucumber)

Raw Crackers (suppose to taste like cheeze-its - they are kinda gross, but then again so are cheeze-its)

Ezekiel Wrap (sunbutter and jelly)

Ate a lot again… had a pretty stressy day!

Day 25:

Smoothie (spinach, banana, pineapple, chia seeds, and coconut water)

Banana bread muffins (nuts soaked over night, dehydrated bananas, vanilla, and agave – warmed in the dehydrator)

Kombucha and Kale chips

Salad (all the veggies I had in the house and my raw mango dressing)

Raw humus wrap (Ezekiel tortilla, humus, tomatoe, spinach, dulse, and red pepper flakes)

Had a nice day… but no workin out!

Day 26:

Kombucha

Raw Desert Taste Testing Feast!!!  (I made a bunch of raw desserts today and was busy taste testing all of them)

Ezekiel Sunbutter Wrap

MAJOR CHEAT!!!  Ate regular organic blue corn chips… just couldn’t wait until monday!!

Humus Sandwich and Raw Food Dessert (Soaked nuts, coconut, cocoa, agave, sea salt, coconut oil, figs, vanilla, cashew cream (soaked cashews, agave, and vanilla), sunbutter, and raw chocolate sauce (coconut oil, cocoa, vanilla, and agave)

Man I feel like I have really fallen off the wagon - no salad today – no smoothie… I think the biggest lesson I have learned through this whole process is that – if you love your food like I do…. you will love it vegan and you will love it raw.  Eating too much, no matter what diet you follow, is still eating too much… it is not good for you emotionally or physically and it most certainly doesn’t allow for weight loss!  Next month – new tactics.  I am bound and determined to get to 130!!!!

Days 21, 22, and 23… February 25, 2010

“You are not given a dream without the being given the power to make it come true!”  ~Forgot to write it down ;)

Day 21:

Kombucha

Raw nuts (I dehydrated them myself with maple syrup, cayenne, and sea salt)

Raw ‘Mexican Fiesta’

Kombucha

Oat snack bar

Salad (spinach, baby greens, orange pepper, tomatoes, dulse, and my wonderful mango dressing!!!)

I think I ate something else – but I forgot….  I have been eating so much during the day cuz of this not eating after 6:30 thing – I feel like a bear going into hibernation… I am eating like I am not gonna eat for months cuz I don’t want to be hungry later!!!  Silly me!!

Day 22:

Kombucha (but it was flat so I threw most of it out)

Spiced raw nuts

Mango wrappers with broccoli slaw and mango dressing, apple cider vinegar and sea salt chips, and green juice

Oat treats

Banana split with raspberries, coconut, raw chocolate, and walnuts

SLIP UP!!!!  I ate some of the kids dry organic Cheerios that were sitting on the table – I don’t even like Cheerios, what a weirdo I am… to mess up on Cheerios - yucko!!!

Kombucha

Rode the bike for 50mins reading ‘Seat of the Soul’ for like the 3rd time!!!!  But I feel like I am STILL eating too much even when I stop at 6:30 – I am packing so much in cuz I am so afraid of getting too hungry later.  Not excited to get on the scale tomorrow… think i might have gained an lb or two!

Day 23:

Banana with sunbutter and drizzled chocolate

Flax chips with hemp seed dip

Raw food bar

Salad (I put 1/2 of it in an Ezekiel tortilla)

Kombucha

Raw banana ice cream

My scale is busted (needs new battery).  On my old scale it reads 135lbs… but who knows!!!  It really takes quite an effort to write all this down!  I am looking forward to next month when I don’t have to write/type everything up!

Day 19:

Salad (mango dressing)

Rolled oat, dried banana, and date bar – good but too much oat!!

Salad (not feeling the creativity today – same dressing)

Kombucha (thanks Chris for going and getting me some)

Raw food bar (busy busy busy)

Ran on the treadmill for 30 minutes, did my grocery shopping, and now waiting on my dehydrator… we will c how things came out!!

Day 20:

Kombucha (I freakin love this stuff!!!)

Smoothie – Red current, banana, swiss chard, and stevia

Kombucha (again)

Wow did I work my butt off today… it feels great!  I hope once I get this dehydrator thing down I won’t be in the kitchen so much – I seriously feel like I spend my whole day making food – eating food – cleanin up food!!!  It doesn’t help that I am making 3 different things to eat each meal – plus snacks (something for me, the kids, and the baby)!!!  I am really starting to feel like this is a lifestyle that I can really live with!!!  I feel great and am really enjoying discovering all these new foods (well old foods with a new twist)!

Thanks for reading!!

Grocery Lists… February 9, 2010

“We are what we repeatedly do.  Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.” ~Aristotle

One of the hardest things for me when I started changing how I was going to eat was trying to figure out, remember to get, find… these wonderful new foods I was going to eat.  There is nothing more sabotaging to a battle then an unprepared warrior – and we are like little health warriors now… right?!  So here is some stuff that I buy on a regular basis and how I use them (I get 70% of my stuff from Meijer, about 10% from Costco, 10% from Kroger, and 10% from vitacost or vitamin outlet).

Coconut oil… cook and bake with it, add it too mac&cheese/oatmeal/etc. for the kids.

Agave… Naturally sweetener, good in smoothies.

Stevia… Naturally no-calorie sweetener

Coconut water… smoothies

Hemp protein powder, maca, lucuma… all superfoods I add to my smoothies

Greens (spinach, swiss chard, kale)… in my smoothies or juice

Fruits and veggies… variety variety variety, cut ‘em up and/or clean them when you get home so they are ready to go (oranges, grapefruit, grapes, apples, bananas, asparagus, broccoli, sweet pot, jicama, blueberries, parsley (in my juice), lems and lims, garlic (so good for you), carrots, baby Thai coconuts (if you can find them), pineapple, watermelon (make a fruit salad ?!), green beans, cucumbers, avocados, mangos, papayas…)

Dried fruit (raisins, dates, figs, mangos, cranberries – used to make trail mix or raw food bars)

Dried coconut

Rice, almond, or coconut milk… replaces my milk in everything

Organic cereals

Organic snack food

Wolfgang Puck Frozen pizzas for the kids

Nuts… I try to get raw

Vans Vegan blueberry waffles

Earth Balance Vegan butter-like spread

Frozen blueberries for smoothies

Flax Oil… I put in kids mac and cheese and make salad dressings with it

Organic Grade ‘b’ (or ‘a’) Maple syrup… Throw out your Aunt Jemima crap

Organic 100% whole grain bread

Ezekiel Bread

Omega-3 chicken nuggets (from costco – not the best but I can’t afford to supply my kids nugget addiction with the organic ones)

Pretzels

Flat Earth Chips

Newman’s wheat-free dairy-free fig newton bars (delicious)

Natural Sea Salt (the good stuff)

Annie’s Mac and Cheese

Organic Eggs

Sometimes yogurt or cheese for the kids

Organic animal crackers for the kids

All natural cleaning product (I think everything but my pledge is natural)

Organic whole grain pasta and organic sauce

Occasionally fresh bread to make croutons with (if I can keep Chris and the kids from eating the whole thing before I get a chance to cut it up!!)

Cascadian Farms organic french fries and tater tots

Alexia Waffle Fries

Organic or natural salad dressings

Organic orange juice (but the fresh stuff is way way way a million times better for you)

Kombucha (fermented tea from the health food store)

Organic spaghetti o’s (gross but my kids love them)

Organic oatmeal

Thats just a general list… hope you found it interesting!!!

Days 7 and 8… February 9, 2010

“Life can only be learned backwards, and lived forward” ~Unknown

Ohhh boy, I slipped up and gave into temptation and had some of the kids natural waffle fries with organic ketchup!!!  I guess that makes me human huh ;)   Thank goodness God give us ‘another day’ ever 24 hours!!

Day 7:

Smoothie (mango, kale, banana, and stevia) – 300

Kombucha, raw food bar, and salad – 600

Trail Mix – 400

Tacos – 600

The dreaded cheat, alexia waffle fries – 300

For a whopping 2200 calories… it’s a good thing I don’t feel the slightest bit bad about this!  I am just doing the best I can, right ;)

Day 8:

Week 1 weight = 137lbs (lost a pound…)

Fruit salad, sunbutter, and kombucha – 500

Cheezie Dip with carrots and a few dehydrated bananas to satisfy my sweet tooth – 500

Smoothie (coconut, banana, papaya, swiss chard, and stevia) – 300

Raw food bar and salad – 500

Better day, did the biggest loser dvd!!  That is 1900 cals for the day… but I think I am gonna not count cals for this upcoming week – it is stressing me out and is most certainly no way to live!  I will see if I gain or lose any weight by freeing myself from the calorie count?!?!? A little shot out to my love on our anniversary… I love you – forever!!!

Days 5 and 6…. February 7, 2010

“There is no instinct like that of the heart”  ~Lord Byron

So I had to run to the store for a few things… here’s what I bought:

I would say about 70% was organic and all of it is yummy ;)   I think the cashiers at the grocery store hate me cuz they have to look up so many numbers - he he!!

Day 5:

Banana, pineapple, orange juice with brewer’s yeast and bee pollen – 400

Cheezie Dip and Crackers (see previous blog wrt cheezie dip… its obviously not really cheese ;) ) - 400

Raw Food Bar – 200

Salad and Kombucha – (same as previous day but I used a sesame dressing – again not really raw) – 200

Banana and Sunbutter – 300

Raw ‘Tacos’ (cabbage leaves for tortillas, sunflower seed – olive oil – sea salt for the ‘meat’, cheezie dip for the cheese flavor, avocados, tomatoes = freakin delicious) – 500

Nuts and watermelon – 300

That is like 2300 calories… way way way too much food for one day – I feel overly full.  I did workout (45min of biggest loser dvd) and I slept like a rock (only had to get up once with Ty).

Day 6:

Fruit Salad (berries and banana) and Kombucha – 300

Tacos again (see above) – 500

Salad – 300

Mango Bars – 200

Raw food bar with cashews and Spirulina – 300

Watermelon – freebie

About 1600 calories for the day, but I was wicked busy and it was girls night!  Walk/ran on the treadmill = great workout!!  Had to sit at Mexican Fiesta with the kids while they ate and the food was definitely less tempting this time.  If you are interested in any of the recipes let me know!!!!!!
