“Most people never run far enough on their first wind to find out if they’ve got a second. Give your dreams all you’ve got and you’ll be amazed at the energy that comes out of you!” ~William James
This is by far one of my most favorites quotes!! And I think we should take it literally and figuratively. I just want to talk about our bodies for a few minutes. Oh our wonderful little power house machines! Yeah that’s right… power – house – machines!! So we are gonna eat better but there is more to mind-body-spirit health… (and so many people don’t want to hear this but open wide cuz I’m gonna give you a big fat dose of it)… OUR BODY’S NEED TO BE WORKED. Oh how our muscles crave to be flexed and our heart craves to be pumped and our lungs crave to breath deeply! Its true true true! Just think about it, our bodies are one of the few things that get stronger by being worked! Most machines start rusting, breaking down, falling apart – with the human body this only happens if we sit on our butts all day! We were built to run, squat, climb, leap, lift – there is a pro athlete, marathon runner, cross-country skier in all of us!!! Now you might be saying to yourself… umm not in me – YES IN YOU! But our bodies are not gonna work for us until we work them.
O.k. so what are you talking about?? An hour a day… 45min in the lap pool… 100 leg presses?? ‘D’ all of the above, or none of the above, or some of it plus some of whatever else you can come up with! People, we have got to get off our bum bums and get moving. Our body want those last five minutes on the treadmill, they want to take the stairs, they want to wash the walls, they love to pull weeds and clean the garage and go for a bike ride and have a dance party with our kids and workout two seperate times a day and lift some 10lb weights while watching ‘Dancing with the Stars’ – THE HOW IS NOT IMPORTANT, WHAT’S IMPORTANT IS THAT IT GETS DONE – make your own way, cuz our own way is the easist to follow!! It is dying (and in some cases I mean this literally) to take the dog for a walk (and I’m not talking about once around the block – more like the neigborhood), it can’t wait to rake the lawn… it’s what it was born to do! With all those wick strong bones, bulging muscles, supple joints, beautiful heart and lungs! Our bodies are one of the most efficient creations on earth – USE THEM, USE THEM, USE THEM… and when you think you are done, use them some more. They love to burn calories, eat up fat, sweat, and build beautiful new health cells!
A quick little tribute to my wonderful mom… this women never sits down… at 58 she is rocking it out!! She works her butt off and could probably run circles around most people her age and younger. She raised four rockin kids and was always always on the move. The only time she sat down was to take her shoes off at night! She worked her body (and not in the traditional hour at the gym… but thats OK!!) and her body is still working for her – she isn’t on any Rx meds, she doesn’t have any crazy health issues, and she is a pretty happy chick!! She didn’t spend hours in the gym she spent hours working her body in her everyday life – and that works too!
Please don’t give up on your body because you don’t think you have time to go to the gym – screw the gym, for centuries people didn’t have gyms or spas or fitness equipment! Find your way, your path, what works for you – and WORK IT OUT!!! 10min one day, an hour the next, not for three weeks… working your body can come in any shape and size, just like we do!
Something is always more then Nothing!!! To your beautiful little power house machine!! Nicole
BTW that class we had last night was a really good workout and I had a lot of fun doing it. I think it’s important to understand that you can work out and have fun doing so. Don’t limit yourself, explore and make it fun. Take a “dance” class, laugh at yourself and have fun with it. I hate to admit it but my quads are sore as hell!!
LOL
Becky!
Thanks for a great party!
I couldn’t agree more… very good point and well put! And yes the ‘class’ we took made me very sore the next day. Which I think brings up a good point – VARIETY!! In order to completely work our bodies we have to do different workouts… thereby working different muscles! Plus, that keeps it fun!!
